In times of difficulty and challenges, we often find ourselves searching for strength and guidance. We tend to want to be in full control of our lives. But time and time again, our flesh fails us. On our own, we don’t have the wisdom and ability to carry ourselves through all that this life may bring us. But there is good news! We serve a God that can carry us through it all! As believers, we must draw our strength from the Lord and not from ourselves. Psalm 73:26 NIV says, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

When we turn to God to find strength, we are met with the overwhelming comfort that His presence brings. When we are faced with trials, we can rest in knowing that we are not alone. We have the God of the universe walking through each moment by our side. The Scriptures remind us that the Lord is always with us, ready to offer His support and guidance. In moments of fear, doubt, or weakness, we can turn to Him for strength, knowing that He will never abandon us (Deuteronomy 31:6, Joshua 1:9). This assurance allows us to face challenges head-on, knowing that we have God’s unwavering, almighty strength backing us up.

There’s something so comforting about not having to have your life together and all figured out all the time. When we give up control and seek strength and guidance from God, we can trust that He will always see us through whatever we’re walking in at that moment. We can walk in confidence knowing that His path for our life is better than we could ever dream of and THAT is what we gain when we surrender control and get our strength from Him. Our faith teaches us that there is a purpose behind every struggle and that we have the ability to overcome any obstacle with the Lord’s help. It is through this unwavering belief that we can draw strength and resilience. As we deepen our faith, we cultivate a stronger connection with the Lord, allowing His strength to flow through us.

Lastly, putting your faith in God and drawing your strength from Him also empowers you to face challenges with courage and determination. Isaiah 40:31 NIV says, “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” When we rely only on our own strength, we will eventually always find ourselves overwhelmed and discouraged because we don’t have to capacity to walk through life alone. However, when we surrender and seek the Lord’s strength, we’re saying, “God, I give up my control and will lean on you. I know that I can’t do this on my own, so I trust you and will walk according to your plans for me.” God’s strength equips us with the resilience and perseverance we need to navigate hardships and trials that come our way. It gives us the confidence to step out of our comfort zones and confront life with unwavering determination.

Finding strength from the Lord is what sustains us through life’s most difficult moments. The comfort of His presence, the power of our faith, and the empowerment to face challenges head-on are only a few of the ways in which the Lord strengthens us. So, lean on the Lord and embrace the strength He offers. Trust His plan for your life. Believe in the truth that you are never alone.

Challenges:

1. Write it down. Take time to journal some things that you have trouble giving up control of. Writing them out and actually acknowledging them will be a great start to truly letting go of those things.

2. Make the time. At some point throughout your day (I would recommend the mornings) make time to spend with God in His Word and in prayer. The deeper you know Him, the easier it is to trust Him to be your strength.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for new mercies this morning! I pray over each person reading this right now, that they would give up control and lean not on their own strength, but on yours alone. Would you deepen our desire to know you and be known by you. Thank you that we can have full confidence and trust in your plans. We praise you that we don’t have to live according to our own ways because your ways are higher and they are better than anything we could ever dream up. Today, we surrender control to you. In Jesus’ name! Amen!
