Worthy of More

Are you tired of waiting? For a relationship, for a good community, for your dream job? Are you afraid that if you walk away from that toxic relationship, that you may never find a better one?  Sometimes it seems like the life we live right now is all we have and that it may not ever get better. But I want to remind you and encourage you with this: there IS more. There IS better. And you have access to it! You have access to God’s best for your life, so don’t you dare settle for less. God is doing a great work in you and if you choose to trust him with your life, you allow him to do abundantly more than you could ever imagine. And trust me… you are worthy of more. 

I remember getting my very first bike like it was yesterday. It was hot pink with a white leather seat, tassels and a bell on the handlebars. I remember seeing it in Walmart and telling my parents “That’s the one I want!” I would remind them every day about it, hoping that would be the day they gave it to me. Eventually, Christmas came around and guess what was sitting under the Christmas tree? My hot pink bicycle! I remember feeling so cool and grown up when I finally got it. It was the best gift I had ever received. I rode it every single day, whether I was with my friends or riding by myself. A few months passed by and one day my dad came in my room, and I was telling him how much I loved my bike and how thankful I was for it! I remember him looking at me and saying “Well Madi, I want to ask you to give your bike to your sister, Mallory. It’s almost her birthday and it’s time to give her the bike.” I remember being so sad and confused about why he would ask me to give up something that I loved so much. So, I told him I would think about it and let him know. The next morning, I went up to my dad and handed him the pink helmet that went with my bike. I told him that I trusted him, and if he said Mallory needed the bike more than I did, then I was okay giving it to her. Next thing I know, my dad was leading me to the garage, and you know what I saw in there? A brand new, bigger and better bicycle! I asked my dad, “Why are you giving this to me? What did I do to deserve this?” He looked at me and said, “Because you trusted me. You let go of good enough for best

Those words have stuck with me ever since that moment because they carry so much truth in them. When we chase after the dreams that God has put on our heart and we aim to live a life of abundantly more, there’s going to come times in our life that requires cost and sacrifice. We may not understand why at the time. You may be asking God, “Why is this being taken from me?” or “Why do I have to let this go?” But in those moments, when we choose to let go and trust God, we are laying down “good enough” to make room for God’s best in our lives. “Good enough” is not good enough when God’s best is available to you. So, my challenge to you is to not settle for “good enough” or “just okay.” No matter the circumstance. You may feel tired, lonely, uncomfortable or impatient, but all those feelings are temporary! You have to trust and know that you are loved by a God of immeasurably more. Ephesians 3:20 reminds us of that, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”

Maybe you don’t think that you deserve better. Maybe you’re at a place where you will just take whatever you can get because you don’t think you can reach anything more or receive anything better. YOU ARE WORTHY. And in case you often forget that truth, here are a few verses to cling to:

  • You were created in God’s image. Therefore, you are WORTHY. Genesis 1:27

  • God himself knit you together in your mother’s womb. He does not make mistakes. Psalm 139:13

  • We all fall short of the glory of God. But we are all freely justified through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. Jesus loves you so much and deemed you worthy enough that he CHOSE to die for you, that you may eternal life in him. Romans 3:23-24

  • When you accept Christ, nothing in the world, good or evil, will ever be able to separate you from him. That’s how much he loves and cares for you. That’s how worthy you are to him. Romans 8:38-39

God’s best is available to you! You were made for more than “just okay.” The sacrifices and the waiting are hard, but I promise you it is so worth it. Don’t settle for less than his best for you. Lean in, lay down the “good enough” and make room for what God has for you. It is abundantly more than you could ever imagine or ever receive on your own. He WANTS to give us his best. It may seem like you’re giving up something great, but you have to remember that his ways are always better, and he wants to give that to you. Psalm 84:11 tells us, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” Trust him. Give up “good enough” and receive God’s best. 

 

Challenges: 

  1. Prayer. This is the most personal and intimate way we connect with God. Through prayer, I challenge you to ask the Lord to reveal to you what areas of your life you’re settling in. Where are you choosing “good enough?” Then ask him to help give you the strength to give that up and receive God’s best for you.

  2. Read God’s Word. Through scripture, we can really get to know God and his character. We can see that he really does not withhold good from us, nor has he ever withheld good from anyone in the bible. The more you know God, the more you can trust him.

  3. Be obedient. When you feel the Lord asking you to give up something in your life, give it up. When you feel him calling you towards something new, follow him. It’s probably going to be hard. But I promise you it will be worth it.

 

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for every person reading this. Thank you for protecting us, loving us and leading us. Thank you that your ways are better, and your thoughts are higher. I pray that as we continue walking with you, we would learn to give up good for best. That we would trust that whatever you have planned for us is better than we could ever imagine, even when we can’t see it in the moment. We know that we serve a holy and a faithful God. I pray that we would walk in obedience to where you are calling us. I ask for abundant joy and blessing over our lives and that we would spread that joy to everyone around us. Help us to look different and be set apart from the rest of the world. To you be the glory, honor and praise. In Jesus’ name! Amen!
