Great is Your Faithfulness

There are so many attributes of God that are beyond our comprehension. He is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipotent (all-powerful), omnibenevolent (supremely good), infinite, immutable (never changing), self-sufficient, and the list goes on. All things that our small, finite, human brains cannot fully understand. These attributes make him vast and incomparable. He never forgets, never fails, never breaks a promise, and never leaves. He is ALWAYS faithful, and he proves that time and time again.

I love the story of God leading the Israelites out of Egypt, through the desert, and to the promised land. He promised to lead them out of being bound in Egypt, to the land of milk and honey. All they had to do was trust him and follow where he led them. If you’re familiar with this story, then you know they did not do that well. The people he freed from Egypt wandered in the desert for 40 years. They lacked trust and patience and tried to do things their own way. So, while the ones who he led out of Egypt had died in the desert, he still led their children and families to the land he had always promised. Maybe it didn’t look exactly like they had thought it would, but he kept his promise. He was faithful to the Israelites, so we can trust that he will be faithful to us. It may be tough to trust him in the midst of the season you are in, but know that his way will always prevail if we walk in obedience to him.

There have been many seasons in my life that, in the moment, felt like the end of the world. Moments that felt like God wasn’t there or wasn’t hearing my prayers. Moments where I was confused about what I was going through and questioning how God could use it for my good and his glory. Yet time and time again, God showed up. He was faithful in the end just like he always is. 2 Timothy 2:11-13 says this, “If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” I love this verse because it’s like a promise to us from God. If we are faithful followers of him on earth, we will reign forever with him in eternity! It’s assuring us that our present difficulty on this earth will be worth it when one day we receive the eternal gift of heaven. But on the flip side, if we choose to deny God, he will deny us. In seasons of confusion and pain, we have a choice. We can let it create division between us and God, allowing room for anger and bitterness. Or we can let it push us closer to the Lord, leaning on him to give us the strength we need to get through and trusting that his ways are better. Which way are you choosing?

Lamentations 3:22-24 says, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; there I will wait for him.’” We have HOPE in the Lord. Because he loves and cares for his children so much, we are not completely consumed. There is still a promise of restoration and redemption for us. His mercies and his compassions are new every morning. They never fail! No matter how far you’ve strayed or how isolated you feel, God is faithful, and he is with you. There is nothing more comforting than that truth. 

Life on this earth is hard. There is pain, suffering and brokenness. But there is also joy, celebration and triumph. The ways of this world and the situations we walk through are always going to change. Some days will be the highest of highs, and some will be the lowest of lows. But one thing that I always know for sure? God remains faithful. He remains consistent. He is the same yesterday, today and forevermore (Hebrews 13:8), and I hope you find peace and comfort in that promise. 

 

Challenges:

  1. Read God’s Word. Know the promises he makes in the stories of the bible. When you know more about God and his character, you can truly start to believe how much he cares and that he wants to do a good work in YOU.

  2. Remind yourself of his faithfulness. I like to tangibly write scripture, prayers, rejoices, etc. on sticky notes around my house so I will constantly see them and be reminded of them. It’s a great way to keep God at the forefront of your mind!

  3. Write out 3 prayers that the Lord has recently answered in your life. It can be easy to get lost and caught up in the things we are struggling with or the prayers he hasn’t answered yet. But when you shift your perspective to a place of gratitude, life becomes more freeing and feels a whole lot lighter.

 

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for your faithfulness. Thank you that your mercies are new every morning and that we get to cling to the hope that we have in you. We never have to worry or doubt that you are walking with us! You will always provide, and your way will always prevail. We praise you that your ways are higher than ours and that we don’t have to rely on our broken selves to get us through each day. Just as you cared for and led the Israelites faithfully, we know that you will do the same for us. I pray that we choose to be faithful and obedient to you each and every day. You deserve all the glory, honor and praise! We love you. In Jesus’ name! Amen!
